Partnering with The Children’s Hospital Volunteers Paws for Purpose Program

Oklahoma Native Andrew Heaney Helps Pastime with Purpose Lace Up and Leash up

Get excited, because locally based non-profit, Pastime with Purpose, is hosting the second annual ‘OKC Pup Cup 5K-9’ on Oct. 14, 2018 at Stars and Stripes Park in Oklahoma City! The race will begin at 9AM and conclude at 12PM.

The OKC Pup Cup is excited to announce this year’s Impact Partners, The Children's’ Hospital Volunteers Paws for Purpose Program and Awareness Partners, Pet Angels Rescue and Fields and Futures

As one of Pastime with Purpose’s 2018 Impact Partners, we are elated to know that the support from this 5K-9 will directly benefit our Paws for Purpose Program! At The Children’s Hospital, we have found that blending clinical care goals with the loving comfort of our facility dog, Targa, has and continues to be, a huge success. Check out our ‘Paws for Purpose’ Blog post for more!

This event will feature on-site dog friendly and fitness oriented vendors, music, food trucks, and more. Each runner will receive a Pup Cup t-shirt, finisher medal, and schedule permitting, you will have the opportunity to meet Oklahoma native and starting pitcher for the LA Angels, Andrew Heaney.  Heaney and other professional athletes have joined together with Pastime with Purpose, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization who enlists the support of professional athletes to use their voice in the community to help raise awareness and deliver impact to underserved groups in the US and abroad.

“My wife and I love dogs. We have two black labs who we can’t imagine life without. Sadie and Charlie are therapeutic for me and bring balance and peace to my life.” Heaney said. “By helping dogs, we ultimately help humans, especially through supporting dog therapy programs in children’s hospitals like OU. Those dogs and their handlers make a world of difference for kids going through, a lot of times, painful and scary experiences.”

Early Bird registration (before Sept. 22nd) is $30 to run solo, $40 to run with your furry friend. After Sept 22nd, there will be a $5 price increase.  Be sure and register early to reserve your spot! Visit to register!
